Exactly ten months after their wedding, Counting On Stars Joseph Duggar and his wife Kendra Caldwell have welcomed their first child. Caldwell gave birth to a healthy baby boy last week, and he weighed in at 7 lb 8 oz and is 20.5 inches long. The couple named their son Garrett David Duggar.
The Duggar family posted a photo of the smiling couple and their new baby boy on their website, and Caldwell also shared the pic on her Instagram. The new parents beamed with joy while holding their son who was bundled up in a blanket with his eyes tightly closed.
Duggar and Caldwell also released an official birth announcement which read, “No matter how many times we’ve experienced the joy of babies born in our families, there’s nothing comparable to the joy in our hearts today! Children truly are a gift from God. We are so thankful for his safe arrival and this new journey as parents.”

The baby came all while Josiah Duggar, Lauren Swanson and the rest of the Duggar family were celebrating Si’s upcoming wedding with a shower. Some brothers might consider this as stealing the spotlight. But this is the Duggar family. The same family where Joy-Anna Duggar helped Joseph propose to Duggar at her own wedding reception. So, we can only assume Josiah and Lauren are just happy that baby Garrett arrived safe and sound.
Duggar, 23, and Caldwell, 19, announced the pregnancy in December just three months after they tied the knot. Then, in February they revealed to family, friends, and fans that they were expecting a little boy. At the time, Caldwell wrote on Instagram that she was excited to develop a mother-son relationship with her little man. She also wrote that she and her husband were excited about this new stage of life and asked for prayers for a safe delivery and a healthy baby.
Duggar added that the couple was happy to find out they were having a boy, and they were excited about making future memories with their little guy. He also wrote that the couple had asked God to bless their son and to help him grow into a faithful follower of Christ.
The couple married on September 8th after getting engaged at Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth’s wedding in May. And with the baby coming exactly 39 weeks after they said “I do,” Joseph and Kendra wasted no time when it came to making a baby.
On an episode of Counting On, Joseph talked about saving themselves for each other, and they didn’t even kiss before they got married. But it is clear their wedding night was quite eventful.
According to In Touch Weekly, the baby came so soon that fans questioned the timeline between the wedding and Garrett’s birth. Some fans even tweeted about planning weddings around a Duggar bride’s cycle so they can get pregnant immediately.
Joseph and Kendra met in 2012 at church, and with their families being close friends, it allowed the two to get to know each other. They didn’t officially start courting until March 2017, but at that point, things began to move quickly.
Just two months later Joseph Duggar popped the question, by September they were married, and in December they were expecting.
Now, they are officially a family of three.
New episodes of Counting On premiere next month on TLC.
