News has been coming out of Tontitown, Arkansas, so quickly these days that it’s even been hard for die-hard fans of Counting On to keep up. But, with all the pregnancies, the courtships, the engagements, and the births, the Duggar family knows how to properly introduce a new baby to the world. And this time, it’s Joy-Anna Duggar’s turn to let fans know all about the family’s newest addition, Gideon Martyn Forsyth.
Last month, Joy-Anna and her husband, Austin Forsyth, welcomed their first child exactly nine months after tying the knot. And now, the couple has released a video on TLC’s website, so they could introduce their new son to fans.
In the video, Joy-Anna tells the camera that they are happy to announce Gideon’s arrival. Then, Austin reveals that they chose the name Gideon because it is a strong Biblical name, and the character in the Bible was a leader who was willing to follow the Lord.
“And Martyn is my middle name, and it was my granddad’s on my mother’s side middle name, so, we just thought our firstborn should have my middle name,” shared Austin.
Joy-Anna then said that she thinks Austin is happy to have a boy because he has wanted someone he can teach skills that he knows, plus he can take him to work and share his hobbies.
The 20-year-old then gets emotional when she tells fans that being a first-time parent is indescribable, and she thinks that everyone who has a baby goes through feelings of being proud and thankful.
For Austin, having someone completely dependent on him has turned out to be a humbling experience.
Joy-Anna says Gideon’s first few days have been good, and he likes to eat a lot. However, he does have his days and nights mixed up, and she is attempting to fix that.
She concluded the video by thanking fans for their love and encouragement.
Gideon arrived on February 23rd at 3:39 in the afternoon, and it appears that Joy-Anna gave birth in a hospital instead of at home like she originally planned.
Prior to his arrival, the couple had a video on TLC’s website where they outlined their plans for a home birth like most Duggar women do, and she told fans that they had the birthing pool set up and were ready to go.
But, she did say that she was flexible and had backup plans just in case something didn’t go right.
The couple hasn’t revealed exactly what happened, but her cousin Amy Duggar posted a picture to Instagram of Joy-Anna in a hospital bed holding Gideon, which leads us to believe she didn’t give birth at home.
Amy quickly deleted the photo and set her account to private, but a fan had already captured the image and posted it on their own page.
This was the first time a Duggar has ever released a post-labor hospital picture on social media. Watch Joy-Anna Duggar take on motherhood on new episodes of Counting On Monday nights on TLC.
