Anytime someone from the Duggar family – like Joy-Anna Duggar – posts something on social media, the Duggar haters come out in droves to let them know how much they disagree with the Counting On stars’ life choices. Earlier this week, when Joy-Anna posted a series of pics of her 19-month-old son Gideon appearing to enjoy a caffeinated beverage, the internet trolls arrived right on cue and started mommy-shaming the 21-year-old who just suffered a miscarriage in late June.
Duggar posted three pictures of Gideon who looked like he was sipping on an iced coffee, but she made it pretty clear in the comments that her son didn’t need caffeine and the pics were a joke.
“A little coffee to get him through the day. ☕️, “wrote Duggar. “Or maybe not… he already has more energy than I can keep up with 🤪🙅🏼♀ #nocoffeeforhim #somuchenergy #GideonMartynForsyth.”
Immediately, people started commenting about how you should never give coffee or soda to a one-year-old, and then an argument started about which cultures around the world commonly give children coffee.
Many fans came to Duggar’s defense, explaining that their small children love to steal their last few sips of coffee. And, they also pointed out that the reality star wrote in the caption that Gideon wasn’t drinking caffeinated coffee because he had plenty of energy. Some suggested it was decaf, while others thought he just stole his mom’s drink and she decided to snap a quick pic.
No matter what the truth is behind the photo, the young mom didn’t do anything wrong. And, the rude comments were quite insensitive considering Duggar had to deliver a stillborn this summer after miscarrying her second child – a daughter who she and her husband Austin Forsyth named Annabell Elise.
Duggar revealed in early July that she and Forsyth had gone to the doctor for their 20-week ultrasound and gender reveal, but they couldn’t find a heartbeat or see any movement. Cousin Amy Duggar King says that Joy-Anna has stayed strong after suffering such heartbreak, and her family continues to love and support her.
New episodes of Counting On will return to TLC in October.
