Just six months after announcing they were courting, Counting On stars Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson shocked fans by getting married on the last day of June. Their Bed Bath & Beyond registry had a wedding date of December 31st, and the couple had been keeping their plans a secret, so when the couple announced last weekend that they had tied the knot, it came as a surprise to everyone.
Now in a clip from the season finale of Counting On, Josiah Duggar opens up to Joseph Duggar about his anticipation about sharing his first kiss with Swanson. After revealing that they had kind of planned it out, Josiah went on to say that he had been practicing…. on his hand!

Honey, Where do I start? From the beginning you have always been my best friend.? I never knew I could love someone as much as I love you.? You are the one who makes me laugh until my stomach hurts, the one who calls me beautiful even when I wake up with crazy bed hair, the one who loves me even when I don’t deserve it, the one who cares for my needs before your own. You push me to do greater and better things, and have always been that encouragement to point me towards Christ! ?? God is so kind to have blessed me with such an amazing husband! I love you sweetheart-Happy Birthday!?? Forever and always yours❤️?-Lauren . . . Btw thank you @andyhendersonphotography you did an amazing job!
“I was thinking, you know what? I wonder what it feels like,” he says. “So, I practiced on my hand. I think practicing on my hand was just to see what it felt like from her side — you can’t kiss a tree and expect to see what it’s going to feel like for her.”
Duggar and Swanson exchanged vows in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, at John Brown University Cathedral of the Ozarks. And, since they apparently moved up their wedding date six months, once again there is speculation that Swanson could be pregnant, and this could be another Duggar shotgun wedding.
Last year, Josiah’s sister Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth moved their wedding from October to May, and just a few weeks later announced a pregnancy. So, the shotgun wedding rumors followed the couple non-stop until she gave birth to their son – exactly nine months after they wed.
But, Josiah and Lauren don’t want to talk about that. Instead, they told People Magazine that it is a joy to be husband and wife and their wedding day was “absolutely perfect.”
The couple also shot a video for TLCme shortly after the wedding ceremony – while Swanson was still wearing her gown and Duggar was still in his tux – and the bride shared one of her favorite moments.
“From walking down the aisle to looking in his eyes and saying the vows was probably one of my favorite moments,” said Swanson.
And Duggar revealed that after a whirlwind six-month romance, he is ready to slow down.
“What we’re looking forward to…is really spending time with each other as a couple, and really slowing down. For me, I made a priority years ago, for my first year of marriage especially, to just slow down on as much work stuff as I can and really focus on our relationship with each other.”
The night before the wedding, the Duggar and Swanson families got together for the rehearsal dinner, which was a summer cookout with burgers, hot dogs, and sides.
Then the next day, Swanson’s dad, Dwain, officiated the wedding ceremony, and she wore a modest, white cap-sleeved gown. The couple served their guests heart-shaped strawberry shortcake at the reception.
Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson will return in new episodes of Counting On in 2019 on TLC.
