It’s pretty much impossible to imagine TLC without the Duggars. But, it almost happened back in 2015 thanks to Josh Duggar’s molestation and cheating scandal. The network ended up canceling 19 Kids and Counting, but that gave birth to the popular spin-off Counting On. Now, season eight is almost here, and it will premiere on TLC on July 30th.
With all of the Duggar family baby and wedding announcements this spring, we almost missed the announcement that the new season would be starting next month, but In Touch Weekly is reporting that we will definitely see new episodes soon.
The Duggars Have Been Stirring Up Drama Between 'Counting On' Seasons 7 and 8 https://t.co/nF41npcwlj

A lot has happened in the Duggar family since season seven ended back in March. In the last episode, Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell we’re getting married, and Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth announced they were expecting a baby. But since then, Joy-Anna has given birth to her son Gideon, and Joseph and Kendra have also welcomed a baby boy.
On top of that, Josiah Duggar started courting Lauren Swanson and now the couple is getting married soon.
TLC has released a one-minute trailer of the upcoming season, and it features everything from Joe and Kendra’s honeymoon to Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo’s baby announcement. Chances are, before the premiere, baby Vuolo will have already arrived since Jinger is due in the middle of July. But the Counting On seasons seem to be about six months behind real life, so we probably won’t see anything about the arrival of baby Vuolo until season nine.
Because of recent falling ratings, there was some speculation that TLC would be canceling Counting On. But if the network didn’t part ways with the family after the Josh Duggar scandal, then the family will probably be on the network for many years to come.
But last fall, another member of the family almost cost the Duggars their show. Jill Duggar’s husband Derick Dillard went on a transphobic Twitter rant that angered a lot of fans. The network ended up firing Dillard, and in an act of solidarity, Jill quit the show. But they were hardly missed. With so many people in the family, the show easily went on without them.
Fans just can’t get enough of the Duggar family. However, it’s kind of surprising that the seasons are so short because of all the things they have going on. The last season only lasted one month, But hopefully, we’ll get a few more episodes out of them this time around.
New episodes of Counting On will return to TLC on July 30th.
