By now, former Counting On star Derick Dillard should know that anything he posts on social media is going to cause backlash. The 29-year-old recently posted a picture of his wife, Jill Duggar, on Instagram along with a sweet message, but because he called his wife a specific word, it resulted in outrage from fans.
In the picture’s caption, Dillard wrote, “My wifey @jillmdillard makes the best pre-marathon race meals! Thanks babe! #carbs#familytime #matchingshirts#hogeyemarathon#firstmarathoninnorthamerica.”
It was his use of the word “wifey” that caused an uproar, but it didn’t make much sense since that word is a positive term according to Urban Dictionary. The site says that wifey is a reference to a real lady who is your favorite and sexy in every way.
But, as In Touch Weekly points out, this is just the latest in a long line of negative reaction towards the couple’s social media posts. Last month, when the duo went live on Facebook during a date, Dillard distributed some odd behavior and fans and critics obviously noticed.
The administrator of the anti-Duggar Facebook page Life Is Not all Pickles and Hairspray called Dillard’s actions “weird,” and he seemed to be mocking the use of the word “progressive” by using it repeatedly in odd contexts.
Some even accused Dillard of drug use, but there was no evidence to back up those claims.
The former reality stars also recently took their 9-month-old son Samuel on a mission trip to Guadalajara, which is one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico and the scene of 23 murders in a 48-hour period last month.
Then, during their mission trip to Colorado Springs for Dillard’s School of Ministry training, Duggar was spending some alone time with her boys – Samuel and 2-year-old Israel – and fans went nuts after she made her toddler walk over an hour to get food at the Chick-Fil-A.
Meanwhile, Dillard was busy helping a couple from their church in Northwest Arkansas start a new church in Colorado Springs called The Bridge Fellowship. As part of the “church plant,” Dillard volunteered at a food pantry, delivered food to the homeless, passed out coffee and doughnuts to local businesses, and handed out dog treats at dog parks.
The family of four also enjoyed the beautiful Colorado scenery when Dillard wasn’t working on starting a new church. They celebrated Israel’s birthday, and the couple shared their highest kiss on Pike’s Peak at 14,115 feet in the air.
New episodes of Counting On – without Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar – will return to TLC later this summer.
