Kendra Caldwell and Joseph Duggar had their first child this week, roughly 9 months after tying the knot. While Counting On fans congratulated the couple on social media for the birth of Garrett David Duggar, quite a few accused Caldwell of being pregnant prior to the wedding day.
Fans were suspicious of the pregnancy timeline because Caldwell had the child almost exactly 9 months after exchanging vows. In fact, a few fans expressed their doubts on social media and questioned whether Caldwell got pregnant after the wedding.
That said, a lot of the Duggar grandchildren have been conceived on the wedding night, so it’s possible that Caldwell didn’t get pregnant until the wedding.

Caldwell and Duggar confirmed the baby news on social media over the weekend. “No matter how many times we’ve experienced the joy of babies born in our families, there’s nothing comparable to the joy in our hearts today!” the couple shared, adding that they are super excited to become parents for the first time.
As Counting On fans are well aware, the Duggars follow a strict set of rules throughout the courting process. According to In Touch Weekly, this includes almost zero physical contact before marriage. Kissing is off limits as are full-frontal hugs. Side-hugs are allowed, but only on a limited basis.
The Duggar patriarchs, Jim Bob and Michelle, also monitor text messages and set up chaperones for every date. Within this system, sex before marriage is a major no-no.
If Caldwell and Duggar had sex prior to tying the knot, the scandal would be a huge embarrassment for the family. Given their recent string of scandals – a la Josh Duggar – the family would likely do everything in its power to keep a pre-marital pregnancy under wraps.
That doesn’t mean that Caldwell definitely got pregnant before the wedding, but there’s a slim chance the family would admit it if she did.

Duggar and Caldwell were introduced to each other at church way back in 2012. They didn’t start courting, however, until the spring of last year. Duggar asked Caldwell to marry him two months into the courtship and they officially exchanged vows last fall. Duggar opened up about starting a new life with Caldwell shortly after the wedding.
“It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of to have a wife and to raise a family in a way that honors the lord,” he explained.
The Duggars have not commented on the rumors surrounding Caldwell’s pregnancy. Season 8 of Counting On premieres this July on TLC.
