After announcing a partnership between his company and the NFL, Jay-Z has opened up about the situation, explaining that he saw it as an important move in the current political and social climate.
He claims to have the aim of strengthening the community through football and music, taking advantage of the Inspire Change initiative started by the NFL.
The partnership will see Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s company, choosing artists to perform at specific games and the Super Bowl, and will contribute to the league’s initiative that was launched earlier this year.
The initiative is supposed to provide support for programs that reduce barriers to opportunity, focusing specifically on three areas: Education, police relations, and criminal justice reform.
Jay-Z has been active on the political scene for a while now, although in some rather indirect ways for most of the time.
He has expressed an active interest in improving the overall situation in the country and around the world, particularly with regards to the perceived injustice towards certain groups of people.
Beyonce’s husband sat down with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and explained: “I think we forget that Colin’s whole thing was to bring attention to social injustice. So, in that case, this is a success. This is the next thing. If protesting on the field is the most effective way, then protest on the field,” he said. “But if you have a vehicle that can inspire change or you can speak to the masses and educate at the same time as well, tell people what’s going on, so people are not controlling your narrative, not telling you, ‘your protest is about this. I think we’ve passed kneeling. I think it’s time to go into our actionable items.”

We will never turn our backs on @kaepernick7 because your idols decided to work with the same organization that is actively keeping Colin unemployed all because he peacefully protested against social injustice in black and brown communities, specifically police brutality. So really, how can Jay-Z and the NFL utter social justice in their partnership while keeping Colin unemployed because of his social justice work? • • It’s typical for the NFL to buy different PR looks to cover up their dirt-that’s nothing new. But what is disgusting and disappointing is Jay-Z let them use him. Whether Jay-Z knew it or not (I don’t doubt his intelligence-so I would think he knew) he helped the NFL bury who he said is an iconic figure, Colin Kaepernick. • • Don’t tell me there’s a “master plan and wait for it” because the ONLY reason anything would ever change is because THE PEOPLE are loud and clear and won’t let the league buy their loyalty with their disingenuous moves. The people are letting the league and anyone who works with them know that they aren’t buying the bs. • • Thank you all so much for showing Colin so much support and love. I know for myself, I can’t thank y’all enough for loving my family. • #imwithkap #nokapnonfl ❤️❤️❤️ • • #RP: @kaepernick7: You never turned your back on me or the people, even when the nfl tried to silence your voice & the movement. You’ve never flinched or wavered. I love you Brother! Let’s get it! @E_Reid35 And to the people – I see you, I hear you and I love you! Thank you for having my back!!!✊🏾 • • 🎥: @relrelrelrel @djtonedef
It is true that society seems to have certain issues that need a unique approach, and many have expressed their support for what Jay-Z is doing.
At the same time, others have cautioned the iconic rapper to be careful not to stir up any unnecessary conflict with his actions.
Colin Kaepernick’s radio host girlfriend, Nessa, is one of those people who bashed Jay-Z by saying: “We will never turn our backs on @kaepernick7 because your idols decided to work with the same organization that is actively keeping Colin unemployed all because he peacefully protested against social injustice in black and brown communities, specifically police brutality.”
Jay-Z might be prepping a big surprise.
