Colin Firth Will Never Work With Woody Allen Again
When news of the Harvey Weinstein scandal first broke, Woody Allen made a statement indicating he hoped there wouldn't be a witch-hunt. The public understood the message to mean he hoped decades-old allegations that he had sexually abused his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow would not result in attacks against him.
The sentiment seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Since the Weinstein scandal broke, Dylan Farrow has received great public support, sat for her first television interview, and celebrities have heard her cry and denounced working with Woody Allen.
Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth is the latest to join the movement. On January 18, 2018, Dylan Farrow gave an interview to CBS This Morning . On the same day, Firth released a public statement via the Guardian and announced he won't work with Woody Allen again.
Dylan Farrow first told her mother, Mia, that Woody Allen allegedly sexually abused her in 1992. A criminal case was never filed but it was determined that Mia would retain full custody of Dylan. Her relationship with Woody Allen came to a halt and the allegations never resulted in any public backlash against Allen.
By the time Dylan Farrow grew up and spoke out for the first time regarding the alleged abuse, Woody Allen had continued to make movies, worked with A-list actors, and has received numerous awards and nominations.
In 2014, Dylan Farrow penned an opinion piece for the New York Times where for the first time as an adult, she shared details of the alleged sexual assault. Colin Firth had worked with Woody Allen in the movie Magic in the Moonlight that was filmed in 2013, just one year prior to Farrow's open letter.
After seeing Dylan Farrow speaking out on television on January 18, 2018, he announced he would never work with Woody Allen again.
Dylan Farrow's interview with CBS This Morning was heartbreaking for many to watch. The story went viral and many people discussed the allegations and Woody Allen's career on social media. Farrow stated that it was difficult to see Woody Allen during the clip and she broke down in tear when he denied sexually abusing her.
Several celebrities have come forward to speak against Woody Allen. Some like Rebecca Hall and Timothée Chalamet announced they were donating their proceeds from Woody Allen films to charities.
