Christina Aguilera Slams 'The Voice' - Says She Will Never Return Because It's 'Not About The Music'
During a brand new interview, Christina Aguilera slammed the singing competition. The star revealed that she will never return to The Voice as a coach because the show is not really about the music.
As you may be aware, Aguilera was part of it from 2011 to 2016 so she knows very well what goes on behind the scenes.
‘It became something that I did not feel was what I’d signed up for in season one. You realize it isn’t about music. It is about making good TV moments and massaging a story,’ the singer stated.
In addition to that, she apparently felt really restricted while on The Voice.
‘I did not get into this business to be a TV show host and to be given all of these rules to follow. Especially as a female: You cannot wear this, cannot say that. I’d find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothes, makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet.’
It is safe to say she did not have a good experience working on the show as she even called it an ‘energy sucker!’
‘I was really longing for freedom. Coming home, I’d just take everything off - the makeup, all of it - and would blast hip-hop or … Nirvana, ‘Creep,’ Slayer. Anything similar to that to get me out of the zone, that TV mode.’
But if it was so bad why did she stay for six seasons?
‘Touring’s so frightening to me because I’m a mom first. It is part of why I stayed in the position I was. It is easy to get comfortable in the same place and not have to worry about uprooting your children. I have been putting myself on the back burner,’ Aguilera explained.
