Chris Pratt opened up about James Gunn’s firing an how he and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 cast members are coping with it. The actor told Associated Press while at a Michelob Ultra event that ‘It’s not an easy time.’
‘We all love James, and he is a good friend of ours, but we also love playing Guardians of the Galaxy. It is a complicated situation for everyone. And you know, we want to move forward and do what is right and be the best people that we can be,’ he went on.
The filmmaker was fired by Disney after years-old controversial jokes about pedophilia and rape resurfaced.
Gunn sincerely apologized for his edgy past humor which he assured everyone was not rooted in reality and accepted his punishment.
Meanwhile, many stars in the industry, including the cast of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie started rallying for his rehiring.
‘I love going to Comic-Con, but I ended up not doing a lot of interviews around that time because it was so shocking. All I know is that we put a lot of time, thought and effort into the statement we released about it. And I believe we all kind of want that statement to be what we have to say about it. And we were clear and honest about how we feel,’ Pratt went on.
The open letter signed by co-stars Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, and many others, partially read: ‘The character [Gunn] has shown in the wake of his firing is consistent with the man he was every single day on set, and his apology, now and from years ago when he first addressed these remarks, we believe is from the heart, a heart we know, trust, and love.’
But despite getting defended so much, it looks like Disney is not planning on giving Gunn his job back.
