Chris Cornell’s Wife Tears Up In First Interview Since His Death

In her first interview since the death of her husband, Chris Cornell, Vicky Cornell opened up about the Soundgarden frontman’s suicide. When speaking with Robin Roberts from Good Morning America, Vicky stated her husband was the “furthest thing away” from the rock-star-addict stereotype.
Vicky stated her husband was her best friend and was the “greatest father.” She lost her soulmate that day and the love of her life. Chris wanted to be there for his family and children and loved his life.
She went on to say that he never wanted to take his life, so the news of his death comes as a shock. As you may know, Chris lost his life back in May of 2017 to suicide by hanging.
Security guards found him unresponsive hanging by his neck inside a hotel room at the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit. The coroner’s office of Wayne County said he died of asphyxiation.
And while they did discover drugs in his system, they didn’t cause his death. During the chat with Robin, Cornell claimed he wasn’t able to make appropriate decisions because of how intoxicated he was due to the medication he took.
While holding back her tears, Vicky said there were signs and she tries not to blame herself for them, but it’s challenging not to. Additionally, the wife of the deceased rock star spoke on the misconceptions about addiction, notably the idea that it’s a not “choice,” as they say.
As it was previously reported, Vicky and Chris shared two children together, Toni, 13, and Christopher, 12. He also had a 17-year-old daughter named Lillian from his past marriage.
His family and children make Chris’ death all the more tragic and unfortunate. If you want to see Vicky talk about addiction, depression, and what signs to look out for, check out Good Morning America on the 21st of February to see the interview.
