The new season of Teen Mom OG will bring some new cast members — Bristol Palin and Cheyenne Floyd — thanks to producers firing Farrah Abraham last year. But at first, the addition of Floyd annoyed some of the original stars, especially Catelynn Lowell.
When Lowell first found out about Floyd, she wasn’t happy because Floyd isn’t actually a teen mother — she gave birth to her first child at the age of 23. But eventually, Lowell came around to the idea.
“At first when I heard, I was like, ‘Wow, you know, she’s not a teen mom, she wasn’t a teen mom,'” Lowell said. “But then getting to know her a little bit … with her daughter having these medical issues and her and her baby’s father, like, co-parenting the way they do. I think that’s good for people to see.”
Amber Portwood also had some reservations about their newest cast members because she didn’t like the unknowns that come with adding people to the original group. But, when Floyd and Palin showed up, Portwood discovered how “sweet and real” they were, and that they really were going to show their lives.
The original cast also took issue with MTV because they felt like the network didn’t have enough respect to communicate with them in on the casting decisions. Maci Bookout said that MTV never said anything to her before they announced the names of the newest cast members, and she thought after doing the show for ten years, she at least deserved a phone call.
However, once everyone got to meet each other and spend some time together, things did go smoothly.
As for Floyd, she is defending MTV’s choice to add her to the cast even though she didn’t have a baby when she was a teenager.
The Are You The One? vet says that people are stuck on the word, and at the end of the day she is a young mom, and 23 isn’t the ideal age to have a baby. Floyd added that the baby was unplanned, and she has the same struggles as a teenage mom and is still learning.
Floyd says that instead of focusing on the things she isn’t, she wants to talk about the things that she is. She is 25 and the mom of a 17-month-old daughter named Ryder. Her baby daddy is Cory Wharton from MTV’s The Challenge, and the two briefly dated after they met on The Challenge: Rivals III in 2016.
Floyd didn’t tell Wharton that he was Ryder’s father until the baby was six months old, and fans will see that story play out during the upcoming season of Teen Mom OG. The two of them are no longer in a relationship, but they are co-parenting.
Catch Catelynn Lowell and the rest of the cast when Season 8 of Teen Mom OG premieres Monday, October 1st on MTV.
