Ben Affleck’s younger brother Casey has opened up about his brother’s struggles with sobriety, and he says that Ben is trying to get a grip on it for the sake of his estranged wife Jennifer Garner and their three kids.
In a recent interview — while promoting his new movie The Old Man and the Gun — Casey talked about his family’s painful struggle, and how Garner has inspired her soon-to-be ex-husband.
“Alcoholism has a huge impact on not just the person, but also their family. So, I think for his kids’ sake and for their mom, and for himself, he’s trying to do the work and get it together,” Casey explained.

The 43-year-old also revealed that he and Ben come from “a long line of alcoholics.” He added that Ben is an “addict and an alcoholic,” and most of his grandparents are the same way. Casey also said that his dad is as bad of an alcoholic as you can be, but he has been sober for 30 years, and Casey himself has been sober for six years.
Casey says that Ben is “trying to put it together,” and that can be a hard thing to do. But, luckily, he has the resources and time to go to a good facility.
Casey was walking the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for his new film’s premiere. And while talking to Entertainment Tonight, he did say that Ben is still in rehab, and he seems to be doing well and is recovering.
According to Radar Online, Garner was the one who performed an intervention on Ben, even though they are in the middle of a divorce. She also brought along an addiction therapist. The two ended up driving Ben to a Malibu facility, and he started treatment for alcohol addiction on August 22nd. Casey says that Ben’s treatment is nothing to be ashamed of, and it is a good thing that he is getting taken care of.

He also said that Ben knew he needed help, and he was vocal about it. Casey added that it didn’t take much to convince his brother that he needed help, and he cooperated.
Insiders say that Ben had been “drinking alone for days” in the days leading up to him entering rehab, and he was in bad shape. The Gone Girl star had also not been eating or showering.
After a few weeks in rehab, Ben is looking much better and seems healthier, say insiders.
While Ben is working on getting sober, Jennifer Garner has been by his side. But, so she can get away from Hollywood every now and then, the Peppermint actress recently purchased a farm in Oklahoma for herself and her three kids that she shares with Ben Affleck — Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6.
