The former host of MTV’s Total Request Live, Carson Daly, confirmed the news today that his stepfather passed away. Not long after Carson posted a tweet claiming that his father’s health was slipping, Daly uploaded another photo announcing the passing of his father on Tuesday, October 24th.
Carson captioned the picture with, “Pops passed away today with absolute dignity and pride.” He went on to say that his stepdad was the “greatest man we ever knew,” and was his family’s hero.
Pops passed away today with absolute dignity & pride. The greatest man we ever knew. Our hero. He exemplified great faith, loyalty to family & hard work. He provided us all with so much. We’re grateful. His legacy lives on in all of us & anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He’s reunited with mom now. Our faith remains strong. Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers.
The announcement comes just five weeks after Daly’s mother also passed away. The day she died, Carson opened up about his mother on Twitter. He wrote, “Short story, been a rough month for my family. Mom passing. Dad’s health in peril.”
Pattie Daly Caruso died at her home in Palm Desert, California of a heart attack on the 17th of September. She was 73-years-old.
At the beginning of the month, the MTV celebrity shared a note written by his mother when she was dealing with breast cancer in 1998.
Daly wrote on Instagram that he and his sister discovered a “goodbye” letter written by Patty indicating that she thought her life might soon be over. He said, “we never knew.”
Fortunately for Daly-Caruso, she ended up living for an additional twenty years. She “survived and thrived. Never give up,” Carson proclaimed.
Daly was six-years-old when his biological father, “J.D,” died due to bladder cancer. As for what Carson has been up to lately, he currently works on the Today Show as a social media correspondent. He used to work for MTV on TRL where he began hosting in 1998 – around the time doctors diagnosed his mother with breast cancer – and lasted for five years until 2003.
