Even though the legendary actress has passed away, it looks like she lives on through the Stars Wars movies. Lucasfilm shared the news that Carrie Fisher will still be part of the Star Wars: Episode IX cast.
Today, the full list of stars to appear in the next installment of the beloved series was announced on the official Star Wars website.
That being said, Carrie Fisher’s name was among the others, confirming that she is reprising her iconic role as Princess/General Leia.
Considering that this is the final movie, J.J. Abrams argued that without Carrie Fisher, there could not be a ‘truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga.’
But how is it possible? The director explained that they would not be using CGI and recasting was out of the question.
Therefore, ‘With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.’
Speaking of CGI, this rumor was actually addressed soon after the actress died in December of 2016.
‘We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa. Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and we will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars,’ the official statement said at the time.
What do you think about this? Are you excited to watch the film set to air in December of 2019?
