Cardi B opened up about what it means to her to be a feminist during a new interview, and he answer was just perfect. As you may already know, the rapper is known for her lack of filter, so we are not surprised she was as outspoken as possible about things such as being a stripper as well as the significance of feminism.
Cardi argued that women like her are usually not perceived as feminists.
‘Being a feminist’s a great thing and some people feel like someone like me cannot be as great as that. But then some are smart but have no common sense. They think feminism’s great and only a woman who can speak properly, who has a degree, who’s a boss, a businessperson… they think only Michelle Obama can be a feminist.’
The celeb went on to explain what feminism actually means in her opinion: ‘But being a feminist’s real simple; it is that a woman can do the same things as a man. I am equal to a n—-. Anything a man can do, I can do. I can finesse, and I can hustle. We’ve the same freedom. I was top of the charts. I am a woman, and I did that. I do feel equal to a man.’
But while a lot of people look at Cardi B and see a confident woman who’s made it in life starting from nothing, she confessed that she wasn’t always like that.
According to the rapper, her work as a stripper, which she did only to gain money, did make her really uncomfortable, especially in the beginning.
‘The first time that I stripped I was really embarrassed. I felt like I could hear my parents in the back of my mind. When I gave my first lap dance all of the girls were looking at me to see if I was doing something wrong because I didn’t know how to do a lap dance. But I felt so disgusted.’
‘They cannot touch your private parts, and they aren’t supposed to touch you at all, but sometimes a man would caress my arm, and I’d hear them breathe so heavily in my ear. It just disgusted me,’ Cardi admitted.
