Britney Spears Celebrates 20th Anniversary Of Her Second Album, Oops!...I Did It Again
Britney Spears can’t believe that it’s been 20 years since she released her second album, Oops!...I Did It Again . On Saturday, the 38-year-old singer posted a fan-made video that celebrated the anniversary of the album’s release.
The video featured clips of Spears back in 2000 talking about the upcoming release of her second album. An 18-year-old Spears says in the video that she just finished listening to the first single from the album, which was also titled Oops!...I Did It Again , and Spears was confident it was better than the song that made her a pop music superstar, Baby, One More Time .
The video also features clips from Spears shooting the video for the title track where she famously wore a red leather suit, as well as moments from the photo shoot for the album’s cover.
“Thank you to whoever made this ….. I just nearly dropped my phone I wasn’t expecting it 😂😂😂 !!!!!” Spears wrote in the caption. “20 years since the Oops! 😳 album …. the anticipation and the butterflies 🦋🦋🦋 I felt before it came out were crazy …. all of my expectations were exceeded!!!!”
Spears added a message of thanks in her post to all of the folks who have stuck by her and grown with her over the years. She said she was “one lucky girl,” and noted that even 20 years ago she “liked to twirl.”
According to People magazine, Spears' second album held the record for the biggest sales week for an album by a female artist for 15 years. It debuted at the top of the Billboard charts and sold more than 1.3 million copies in its first week. The record stood until Adele broke it in 2015 with her album 25.
Earlier this year, Spears celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of the title track from the album - which dropped in March of 2000 - with an Instagram post. She wrote that she couldn’t believe it has been 20 years, and noted that time goes by “so fast.”
Britney Spears also remembers the red suit from the music video for Oops!...I Did It Again very well. She said it was “so freaking hot,” but the dance in the video was fun and that made the shoot fly by.
