It’s been about 3 years since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie put an end to their very public marriage. That being said, it looks like the male actor is finally opening up about how he coped with the divorce, especially in the beginning of the end.

Fans know that Brad has struggled with alcohol abuse before and while he’s doing much better now after getting help, he admits that he would use drinking as an ‘escape’ from all that was happening in his life.

In other words, by abusing alcohol, he was attempting to ‘scape’ all of his ‘mistakes.’

In the meantime, however, Brad has apparently learned to just embrace ‘embarrassments’ in his life and remain sober.

While having a chat for Interview magazine, Anthony Hopkins told Brad that ‘I’ve read you had a struggle with booze and all that’ and that is when Brad got candid about his problems with drinking more than ever before.

He explained that ‘Well, I just saw it as a disservice to myself, as an escape. I am realizing, as a real act of forgiveness to myself for all the choices I’ve made that I am not proud of, that I value those missteps, as they led to some wisdom, which led to something else. You cannot have one without the other. I see it as something I am just now getting my arms around at this time in my life. But I certainly do not feel like I can take credit for any of it.’

Nowadays, Brad is able to just embrace his flaws and accept everything that happens in his life as unavoidable and that is beautiful, as far as he’s concerned.

‘We’ve always placed great importance on mistakes. But what you do after the mistake, is what actually defines a person. We are all going to make mistakes. But what's that next step? We don’t, as a culture, seem to stick around and see what that person’s next step is. And that is the part I find much more invigorating and interesting,’ Brad went on to share with the news outlet.
