If there is any movie that's a frontrunner for the Oscars it's Bohemian Rhapsody . With seven BAFTA nominations, the movie is on track to being an Oscar contender when the Academy Awards announce their nominees on January 22, 2019. Not everyone is thrilled with the film's success. Though director Bryan Singer hasn't been nominated in the U.S. for best director, yet, he scored a BAFTA nomination in the category.

Some feel that any nomination or win for Bohemian Rhapsody is a slap-in-the-face to those who have publicly accused Singer of sexual abuse. Others feel that without a charge or arrest he shouldn't be excluded from the awards.

At the Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody won best motion picture drama and lead star Rami Malek took home the top prize for best performance by an actor in a motion picture.

Bryan Singer wasn't mentioned nor was he on stage when they accepted the best picture award, but he did give a thankful shout-out on his personal Instagram account.

This caused a backlash with those who think Singer's career should follow the path of Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and Louis C.K.

The documentary An Open Secret that focused on Hollywood child sexual abuse spoke about the allegations against Bryan Singer in great detail. An Open Secret and its producer Gabe Hoffman have been vocal about Bohemian Rhapsody's critical success.

Bohemian Rhapsody currently has 39 nominations, eight wins, and award season is still underway.

It isn't only Bohemian Rhapsody's praise that is causing a backlash, but Bryan Singer's lucrative career and success as a director.

He currently has 11 projects rumored in the works and at this point, it is unclear whether the backlash will hinder his future career as a director.

Bryan Singer is an award-winning director with four Primetime Emmys and an additional 35 nominations for other awards. He is best known for X-Men , Superman Returns , The Usual Suspects (which won two Oscars), and Bohemian Rhapsody . He directed two episodes of House M.D. and was nominated for Primetime Emmys for each episode.

How do you feel about Bryan Singer's BAFTA nomination for best director? Do you think Bohemian Rhapsody should get an Oscar nomination despite Bryan Singer's involvement?

“D”, you took the words right out of my mouth. Rami’s performance was incredible. The success of the movie commercially, and the accolades received by him from Brian May, Roger Taylor, and Freddie’s own sister, Kashmira, are totally deserved. Whatever Bryan Singer did, or did not do, and neither I, nor anyone else right now, knows the truth about that, it should not be used as a basis for punishing everyone who made this film such a huge success. They eventually fired him from the film, and did not acknowledge him when the Golden Globe awards were accepted....what more could they have done? If Bryan Singer is guilty, and it WILL come out, sooner or later, then he deserves whatever he gets. Don’t throw away all the excellence because of one bad element.

If he has never been arrested or charged in the 20+ years he's been in the business dont you think it's a little unfair to assume that he is guilty? He should be there collecting the awards for a film he made. There is no evidence that he ever committed these sex assaults.

It's unfair to punish an entire cast and crew for one man's awful behavior. I hate that the backlash to Bryan Singer means people are saying Rami Malek doesn't deserve recognition for his performance, or that all of the cast and crew should be punished as well. Bryan Singer shouldn't be allowed to go unscathed, but that punishment shouldn't be lumped into people who did nothing wrong. It takes more than one person to make a movie.
