It has been three years since Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale split after 13 years of marriage, and since then they have done their best to keep the nasty details of the divorce from affecting their three boys — Kingston, 12, Zuma, 10, and Apollo, 4. Rossdale has said in the past that he and Stefani want to keep their kids as safe and happy as possible, but that doesn’t mean the former couple always agrees on what is best for their boys.
Even though Stefani and Rossdale finalized their divorce two years ago, they are still fighting over how to raise their sons, and things have gotten so bad they recently turned to a mediator.
“They needed professional help,” says an insider. “Gavin feels replaced, even though he’s the one who cheated, he has some anger issues.”
The former couple spent an entire day in mediation on September 5th, and sources say the root of their problems is Rossdale’s jealousy about how close his sons have gotten to Stefani’s boyfriend of three years, Blake Shelton.
According to In Touch Weekly, ever since Stefani and Shelton started dating in 2015, he has become a second father to her boys, and he takes them hiking and on helicopter rides at his ranch in Oklahoma. But Rossdale’s issue is really with Shelton himself because he sees him as a threat. An insider says that the kids are always raving about Shelton — about how wonderful he is and all of the fun things they get to do with him.
However, Rossdale is their dad, and he wants to be sure that it stays that way.
As for Stefani, she has a problem with Rossdale’s rock-star lifestyle and wants to make sure her boys are brought up in a consistent and stable environment. Rossdale does want to see his sons more once his concert tour ends next month, but the children have had trouble adjusting to life after the divorce.
Sources say that Stefani has worked hard to get them into a routine, and she doesn’t want Rossdale disrupting that. The former couple also has differing opinions about their kids’ religious foundation. Stefani is Catholic, but Rossdale isn’t religious at all. When it comes down to it, Stefani knows Rossdale is a good dad, but she has concerns about how his wild ways will affect their kids.
Stefani and Rossdale have had other trouble with their divorce agreement besides co-parenting their children. They have also been at odds over selling their Beverly Hills home. According to their settlement, they were supposed to split the money from the sale, but Stefani has struggled to get it sold. She wanted to lower the price, so they could get more offers, but he wouldn’t let her out of spite.
Sources say that Rossdale just can’t help himself because he is jealous of Stefani’s “perfect life.” He likes to make things difficult for her because when she is miserable, he is happy.
