Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been dating for almost three years now, but when they first started their romance after they both went through painful divorces, the couple never dreamed they would be together this long. In a new interview, Shelton reveals that both he and Stefani thought they were on the rebound.
“I think if Gwen and I were being honest right now talking about this, I think in the back of our minds, we both kind of thought this is a rebound deal because we’re both coming out of a pretty low spot in our lives and we’re kind of clinging to each other to get through this,” said Shelton.
The Voice coach will be appearing on the next episode of Sunday Today With Willie Geist, and in a preview, Shelton revealed that after three years together, his bond with Stefani continues to get stronger and it constantly feels like their relationship is going to the next level.
As Us Weekly reports, Shelton divorced Miranda Lambert in July 2015 after they had been married for four years. And, Stefani split from Gavin Rossdale in August 2015 after 13 years of marriage and having three kids together.
Shelton admits that it was amazing to meet someone who was going through the exact same thing he was at the same moment in time. He said he hit rock bottom when he was going through his divorce from Lambert because it was a devastating experience.
But, while they were going through their divorces, Shelton and Stefani started leaning on each other, and their friendship quickly turned into something more. Just three short months after they each split from their exes, Shelton and Stefani started dating each other – and the relationship continues to go strong.
But does this mean the couple will eventually tie the knot? Back in April, Stefani revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the couple definitely has marriage on the mind. She says she thinks about it all of the time, and she and her kids love Shelton.
During his three years with Stefani, Shelton has built a wonderful relationship with her three boys – Kingston, 12, Zuma, 9, and Apollo, 4 – and he has become a father figure in their lives. The 42-year-old says he never saw that coming, but it has been fun because “they are great kids.”
Wedding and pregnancy rumors have surrounded the A-list couple since the day they went public with their relationship, but they don’t seem to be in any hurry to walk down the aisle or have a baby of their own just yet.
