Blake Lively's 'Gossip Girl' Wardrobe Fail Goes Viral On TikTok
Being locked up in quarantine has given people a lot of time to binge watch their favorite TV shows. A TikTok user recently pointed out that when they were watching an episode of Gossip Girl that first aired eight years ago, they noticed a massive wardrobe fail from star Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen), and the clip quickly went viral.
TikTok user @skyehanamaikai was watching the episode titled “Portrait of a Lady Alexander,” which is the fourth episode of Season 6, when she noticed the wardrobe slip-up. In the clip, Lively’s character is sitting at a table in a restaurant with Penn Badley’s character, Dan Humphrey. First, the character of Serena is seen wearing a coral-colored Roland Mouret bodycon dress with bare legs.
However, when she gets up and leaves the table, the next shot after the edit comes from a different angle and shows Lively wearing dark sweatpants underneath her dress. On top of that, there is a continuity error because Serena is all of the sudden holding a cell phone and carrying a purse.
Once the clip was posted on TikTok, it racked up more than one million likes immediately.
"I still stan Serena even with her sweats," commented a fan. Another added: "I am a huge Gossip Girl fan and have probably seen the show more than 15 times. I can't believe I missed this."
Some fans shared their theories to explain why they think Lively would have been randomly wearing sweatpants in a scene on Gossip Girl . One person said that based on their own experience, most actors put layers on between takes when it's cold. Sometimes, they leave them on “if the shot is from the waist up.”
According to Elle Magazine , cameras did catch the Gossip Girl cast wearing sweatpants, coats, and Uggs with their designer clothes in-between takes when they shot the series between 2007 and 2012. Chances are, Lively didn’t think her sweatpants would be in the shot. Still, the purse and phone continuity error has no excuse.
A Gossip Girl reboot has been announced and will be heading to HBO Max. The new streaming service launches at the end of May, but the premiere date for the Gossip Girl reboot has not yet been set. Blake Lively said back in January that she was “not involved” in the new project.
