Would Prince Harry’s fiancée Meghan Markle have gotten along well with his late mother, Princess Diana? While we’ll unfortunately never get the opportunity to know for sure, it certainly seems like it!
Andrew Morton, the author of Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, has revealed just why the two women would’ve been BFFs – in his opinion!
‘I think what Diana and Meghan have most in common is that they are both glamorous. Feminine, but also feminists. They are independent…certainly for Diana, but also, humanitarian. Two women who want to give back,’ Morton explained.
According to his unofficial bio of the American actress, the author claims Meghan has always been obsessed with Lady Di, and that has shaped her character in such a way that she pretty much mirrors the regretted royal.
‘Some people have said that she has got an obsession with Diana. She has got an interest in Diana. When she was a teenager, like everybody else, she watched the funeral. She had watched videos of Diana and Charles married in 1981. She was affected by the funeral, as many people were, and she and her friends together gathered toys and games to give them to children who were less fortunate, kind of as a way signaling or recognizing Diana’s passing,’ the writer shared.
Morton also noted how interesting it is that Princess Diana passed away at the age of 36, which is how old Markle is now and how old she’ll still be on May 19 when she becomes an official member of the British Royal family.
‘In a curious, psychic kind of way, [Meghan] picks up the royal, or the Diana, mantle. She has got a lot to live up to though. Diana, in her later years, was both a feminist and feminine. I think that is what Meghan has always wanted to be. She wants to be feminine, but also a feminist, and in a way, Diana’s a role model.’
