Season 11 of the Real Housewives of New York City is in full swing, and for OG Ramona Singer, things have definitely changed over the years. Singer recently sat down for an interview and explained that the difficulties Bethenny Frankel and LuAnn de Lesseps went through this past year made the entire cast open up.
“I think them showing, Bethenny and Luann, such vulnerability within themselves made us all feel vulnerable. And we all kind of broke down our barriers. That’s what you’re going to see; you’re going to see us more real than ever in my opinion,” says Singer about Season 11.

Singer revealed that the drama between Frankel and Carole Radziwill during Season 10 had a bad effect on the cast, so it was nice to see the SkinnyGirl mogul come into Season 11 without negative energy because she can be so tough.
The New York OG says that Frankel softened this season because of the tragedy in her personal life, and the entire cast felt bad for her tragic loss. Just days before filming started for Season 11, Frankel’s fiance, Dennis Shields, died suddenly of a suspected overdose in his Trump Tower apartment.
Just a couple episodes into Season 11, Singer made a comment about Shields that led to her issuing an apology. In an episode filmed just three weeks after Shields’ death, Singer said, “How smart can Dennis be? I mean, he was on drugs.”
Singer says she “cringed” when she saw what she had said about Shields, and admitted that it was not one of her finer moments. Singer noted that she liked and respected Shields very much, and she apologized to Frankel and Shields’ family for her “thoughtless comments.”

In that same episode, Frankel revealed that Shields had proposed to her before he died, and she said yes. However, they didn’t tell anyone because Bethenny Frankel didn’t want “another circus” in her life.
Singer also explained during her interview that everyone felt bad for LuAnn de Lesseps, who missed the Season 10 reunion due to a second stint in rehab.
New episodes of the Real Housewives of New York City air Wednesday nights on Bravo.
