Barack Obama On Daughter Malia Leaving For College: 'It Was A Little Bit Like Open-Heart Surgery'
Regardless of who you are, sending your children away to college can be tough. During a speech, he held while in attendance at the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children, Barack Obama opened up about what it felt like when daughter Malia left for Harward.
‘I dropped off Malia at college, and I was saying to Joe and Jill [Biden] that it was a little bit like open-heart surgery. I was proud that I didn’t cry in front of her, but on the way back, the Secret Service was looking straight ahead, pretending they were not hearing me as I sniffled and blew my nose. It was rough,’ recalled the former president of the United States.
Malia took a year off from college in order to intern for Harvey Weinstein and be an on-set P.A. for Halle Berry and Lena Dunham, but now she will be a freshman in college.
Berry had only good things to say about the 19-year-old who apparently did her job very well and was true hard worker.
Dunham also praised Obama’s daughter by calling her very smart and recalled one instance when she asked Malia what her favorite movie was and received an unexpected answer.
When the girl wondered whether she’d like her to list her favs by favorite director, writer or cinematographer, Dunham felt like she was much smarter than her and wanted the topic to be over.
It sounds like Malia Obama has a bright future ahead of her – smart and a hard worker? There’s obviously nothing standing in her way then!
