According to the publication, The Daily Beast, the rapper, Azealia Banks, recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her lawsuit against Russell Crowe, the star of several massive films, including Gladiator and The Beautiful Mind.
Banks claims that Russell choked and spit on her, and also called her the N-word while she attended a party in his hotel suite. She was there at the party as a guest to RZA.
After the incident, Banks filed a police report against the Australian actor, but the LA District attorney’s office chose not to press charges, because of a lack of evidence and the statements made by witnesses.
Back in October 2016, Banks accused Crowe of violent behavior in a social media post. TMZ looked into the situation and spoke with several witnesses who all didn’t corroborate the story.
According to the witnesses who spoke with the publication, Azaelia was the aggressor in the altercation, and even threatened the actor to his face.
In a report from Vulture, the police investigated the matter and discovered that Russell did what he had to for the sake of preventing violence threatened by the controversial rapper.
In her defense, Banks claims that Russell “gaslighted” several different people to defend him, for the sake of making her look bad, and as if it was her fault.
The rapper is seeking restitution for the damage done to her career, as well as her reputation. In her statement, Azealia alleges that it’s not about getting paid, it’s about defending the rights of black women who are accosted without their abusers facing trial or retribution.
To Banks, it’s about standing up for the rights of black women, where violence against them occurs all of the time. Banks also claims that Russell wouldn’t have fought with her had she been a white woman.
