'Avengers' Director Says Captain American Is Not Done Yet, Despite Chris Evans' Tearful Goodbye
When Chris Evans finished filming Avengers 4 , many fans thought the actor was done playing the part of Captain America. But amid all of the speculation – and an emotional goodbye from Evans – Infinity War director Joe Russo just confirmed that Evans will be back as Steve Rogers .
Evans appeared to have confirmed his exit with an emotional message on Twitter after filming wrapped. The actor told fans that it was an “emotional day” and that playing the superhero “has been an honor.”
“To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories!” Evans added.
Based on the comments, most fans naturally thought Evans was finished with the role. Fortunately, that does not seem to be the case.
According to Entertainment Weekly , Russo confirmed that Evans will appear in a future Marvel film as Captain America.
Russo did not reveal any more details about Evans’ future involvement in the franchise, but he did tease that Captain America’s story is not over yet.
“I think it was more emotional for him than us,” Russo shared. “Only because he’s not done yet.”
Russo added that the upcoming Avengers film is still in the editing room. The director, who helmed the project with his brother, Anthony Russo, also revealed that the movie is the longest in Marvel’s lineup so far.
The Infinity War director called the movie a complicated project that features a slew of storylines.
Evans, meanwhile, has not commented on playing Captain America in a future film.
The actor previously admitted that he had zero plans of returning because he wanted to leave the franchise when it was at its peak.
Just because Evans will be back in action does not mean we can expect another Captain America film. It is possible that Chris Evans will only return in a cameo down the road. Either way, it is definitely exciting to hear that he is not done with the role just yet.
Avengers 4 , which has yet to be titled, is expected to be released in May.
