Stephen Amell just dropped a major spoiler about who will play Arrowverse’s Batman. The Arrow star is working on the upcoming crossover, “Elseworlds,” which will introduce Ruby Rose as Batwoman. With Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash heading to Gotham City, fans have speculated that we will finally meet the Caped Crusader. The rumor mill pegged Supernatural star Jensen Ackles for the part, but Amell revealed that Ackles will not be appearing as Batman for the crossover event.
The rumors kicked into high gear after Ackles visited the set of “Elseworlds.” In response, Amell assured fans on Twitter that Ackles is not playing a part on the crossover and was only on set because he is a huge fan of the show.
“Let me squash this rumor right now,” Amell wrote. “@JensenAckles was on set tonight because he’s Grant Gustin’s #2 fan (I’m #1) and not because he’s playing The Batman.”
Because the episode will introduce Rose as Batwoman, the chances of Batman making an appearance are slim.
According to Screen Rant, it is more likely that Batman will be introduced at a later date, perhaps after Batwoman launches her own standalone series as part of the larger Arrowverse. This is exactly how The CW handled the introduction of Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) on Supergirl.
As fans will recall, the character did not show up until the second season of the show. We might not have to wait that long before we meet the new Batman, but Batwoman’s first appearance is almost guaranteed to be all about her.
That said, it would be pretty amazing if Ackles played Batman. Making time in his busy schedule, on the other hand, would be a challenge. Supernatural just started Season 14 and is expected to return for Season 15 next year, which should keep Ackles plenty busy.
Fans can watch the highly anticipated Arrowverse crossover event when “Elseworlds” airs Dec. 9 on The Flash. The second part continues on Arrow the following evening and wraps Dec. 11 on Supergirl.
