Ariel Winter, the Modern Family alum, is turning her back on Twitter, and for a very relatable and understandable reason. According to her representative who released a statement to Us Weekly on the 6th of July, Friday, she chose to get rid of it momentarily because of the “constant negativity she experiences.”
Her spokesperson said she “needs a moment to breathe,” and collect herself without being judged harshly online. However, her Instagram account is still up and running.
As you may know, Winter frequently deals with people criticizing her on social media, especially due to her body size. At the beginning of the week, the 20-year-old actress blasted haters who made fun of her for wearing a t-shirt that said, “eat a bag of d*cks.”
People online suggested she was “on her period.” Winter responded to the person who wrote that by saying that, if she was on her period, she would’ve been at home enjoying a “cheese plate” on the couch.
And her Modern Family sister, Sarah Hyland, had her back as well and slammed the people who alluded to the fact that she wasn’t wearing a bra in her post on the 24th of June.
Hyland wrote on the platform, “to all the pervs commenting on the post,” and then told them, in all capital letters, to “get back to their blowup dolls.” In November 2017, Ariel dished on how she deals with all of the negativity, as it’s practically neverending.
According to the Modern Family alum, it’s not always easy to ignore the people online, but she has learned to write something positive in response, that way, hopefully, the commenter knows better to not say something hurtful.
Ariel isn’t the only celebrity to take a break from social media. Stars such as Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Justin Bieber, have all taken breaks from the platform because of the continuous criticism.
