Arie Luyendyk Jr. is definitely not happy about the way his breakup from Becca Kufrin took place on The Bachelor! In fact, the man made it very clear that the whole thing got him feeling ‘100 percent’ betrayed.
During a brand new interview for GQ, the latest bachelor opened up about his season finale which shocked the show’s fans.
As you probably remember, he proposed to Becca, only to dump her a few weeks after and propose to initial runner-up Lauren Burnham.
‘My date with Becca ended at three in the morning, and then production woke me up at seven in the morning, and were like, ‘OK, who is it?’ I felt like I was trying to be logical. I tried to think like, ‘OK, I know who Becca is, and she is a great person. In the moment, I felt I was making the right choice,’ he explained.
Arie went on to state that on New Year’s Eve, he contacted Lauren on Instagram, in private and asked if they could talk.
‘As soon as I heard her voice, I knew that I had to end things with Becca.’
When he told the producers he had changed his mind, they suggested that the split should be caught on camera.
‘Then we can show you going back to Lauren, and people are going to rally behind you because you took this big risk and you did it for love. At the end of the day, people will want to just see you happy,’ he was supposedly told by the show’s team.
That being said, Luyendyk Jr. claims that, while the show’s finale was promoted as ‘unedited,’ it actually was ‘completely edited.’
‘I was told to stay on that couch [at Becca’s house]. I tried to leave, and then production was like, ‘You need to go back inside. She is finally calming down. I feel you owe it to her to have this conversation.’ So then I went back inside the house. I left and came back. I stepped away from that couch, I went back on the couch. They cut out, obviously, production talking to me from ten feet away. [It] was super unfair to me,’ the man said, adding that he understands that their job was to make it ‘entertaining.’
