Angelina Jolie Shades Brad Pitt In New Interview, Implies Her Family Was 'Unhealthy' Before Split
It has been a year since Angelina Jolie surprisingly filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, but the actress is just now starting to open up about what life has been like for her and her children since the split.
Jolie has been speaking out recently about her marriage and children in various interviews and red-carpet appearances, and she has once again revealed more details about what life is like post-Pitt. This time she talked to the New York Times , and some of the things she said implied life with Pitt wasn’t the fairy tale fans thought it was.
When opening up about her divorce and her six children : Maddox, 16; Pax, 13; Zahara, 12; Shiloh, 11; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 9, she praised them, while throwing shade at Pitt.
“None of it is easy,” she admits. “It’s very, very difficult, a painful situation, and I just want my family healthy. They really help me so much. We’re really such a unit. They’re the best friends I’ve ever had. Nobody in my life has ever stood by me more.”
That statement seems to imply that her family was unhealthy, and Pitt didn’t stand by her during their 12 years together, which included two years of marriage. When the interviewer followed up by asking if her family was healthy, Angelina Jolie replied, “they’re getting better.”
After speaking with Jolie, the New York Times reporter says that her time directing her new movie First They Killed My Father may have been the reason that she decided to finally file for divorce. The film focuses on family, what it means, and how they should “help each other and take care of one another.”
Since the divorce announcement, Pitt, 53, has not been photographed with any of his children. However, he has reportedly spent time with them. Meanwhile, Jolie, 42, has been out and about with all six kids at various events and festivals.
Angelina Jolie and her children are currently at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting her new movie First They Killed My Father , which will be released in theaters and on Netflix on September 15th.
