Andy Cohen is bringing clarity to a joke he previously made about Kathy Griffin after the comedienne posted a hateful video of him where she accused him of offering her cocaine. As Celebrity Insider readers know, TMZ spoke to the Bravo TV host, 49, when he was at the LAX, and they asked him if he had talked to her lately.
When talking to the cameras, he said, “Who? I don’t know her,” while cocking a little smile. The joke is a reference to a notorious line from Mariah Carey when asked about Jennifer Lopez. Mariah famously said that she didn’t know J-Lo. After the video aired, Kathy came out to attack him on Twitter.
Mariah famously said that she didn’t know J-Lo. After the video aired, Kathy came out to attack him on Twitter.
In her tweet, she claimed Andy is “deeply misogynistic.” Cohen, during a discussion on his Sirius XM radio show, Andy Cohen Live, explained his joke by stating he merely wanted to avoid talking trash about his former employee.
Andy said he “wanted to quote the great Mariah Carey, which is funny in my mind.” Cohen explained that usually with TMZ, they ask you a quick question and then you get to walk away.
However, he stood there at the elevator with photographers from the publication and was forced to engage in a conversation that was longer than he wanted.
Cohen said he “failed” his Mariah impression. As you may already know, Griffin posted a lengthy video on YouTube this past Saturday, October 28th, where she claimed the host offered her drugs on the set of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
Cohen responded by saying the allegations are entirely made up. A spokesperson said it was “completely false” and they’re not going to dignify it with any more attention. It appears though Kathy became extremely offended by Andy claiming he didn’t know her.
