Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie are the new American Idol judges, and it looks like they are planning to put their personal spin on the beloved singing competition. The trio opened up about their judging styles but couldn’t help throw some harmless shade at former TV judge Simon Cowell as well!
When asked who out of the three will play the tough judge on American Idol, much like Cowell used to be, Bryan did not hesitate.
‘Well, Lionel put it best. We’re all artists. We are not some sit behind the desk record label guy,’ he jokingly said, with Katy Perry adding: ‘That literally doesn’t have a job here anymore. Bye.’
All in all, the group wanted to claim that as artists themselves, they are able to empathize with the contestants.
The auditions just kicked off on yesterday in New York!
‘We are artists, so we know what it is like to be in that scenario where we are laying our … we are pouring our heart out on the line. And you know, we revert back to how people handled us in our path to get here. So, I think we ran long on our first day because we were really, really careful,’ Bryan explained.
Perry agreed that they were ‘sensitive’ to all of the constant’s dreams and strive to be nothing but positive regardless of their skills.
Finally, Richie also agreed that all three of the judges would be using this ‘kind approach.’
