Amber Heard opens up about Johnny Depp’s abuse in domestic violence PSA
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp finalized their divorce four months ago, after just one year of marriage, but it looks like the complicated and ugly breakup still haunts Heard who, has decided to come out and talk about what really went wrong in their relationship. The short lived marriage ended with a scandal about the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, who was accused by Amber of physically abusing her.
Amber Heard decided to participate into a public awareness project called ‘Girlgaze’ by speaking up against domestic violence in a PSA.
"I guess there was a lot of shame attached to that label of 'victim,'" Heard said in the video. "It happens to so many women. When it happens in your home, behind closed doors, with someone you love, it's not as straightforward. If a stranger did this it would be a no-brainer."
"As a woman having gone through this in the public stage… I have a unique opportunity to remind other women that this doesn't have to be the way it is," she went on. "You don't have to do it alone. You're not alone, and we can change this."
In May, Heard filed a divorce against Johnny Depp after being married to the actor for no longer than 15 months.
At first, it was believed that she was putting an end to the marriage because of “irreconcilable differences,” as the divorce papers stated. However, not too long after the split was made public, it became more and more apparent that the story was much darker.
Later, it was discovered that she had initially submitted photos and videos of the actor taking his anger out on her so that she could obtain a restraining order.
When the first news of the divorce made way into the media, many thought that Heard married Depp just so that she could get money from the actor in the divorce settlement. Indeed, Amber received $7 million in court, but chose to donate the money to ACLU and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, proving that she was not a gold-digger.
