Alanis Morissette is unschooling her children and she described the homeschooling method during an interview with James Corden for The Late Show with James Corden. James had asked the 46-year-old mother of three how she is handling homeschooling during the Coronavirus pandemic. Alanis (who celebrated her birthday on June 1) explained that her family was already practicing the unschooling methods and there hasn’t been much of a change within their family structure.
Alanis explained that her family unschools by following their children’s natural curiosity and by encouraging their interests. She also said that learning isn’t conducted during a set amount of hours per day, but it is a way of life for her family. Alanis Morissette is married to hip-hop singer Souleye (real name Mario Treadway) and the couple has three children: Ever (8), Onyx (2), and Winter (10-months). The children have Alanis’ last name in the hyphenated form Morissette-Treadway.
Alanis has a very down-to-earth approach to parenting and she frequently shares photos and videos of herself with her children and husband on her social media accounts.
In one photo that the “Ironic” singer shared, Alanis was pictured breastfeeding Winter while Mario (Souleye) rested on the bed. Ever and Onyx cuddled near their parents and smiled for the camera. You may see that photo below.
You may hear Alanis Morissette open up about Unschooling and discussing the upcoming release of her ninth studio album Such Pretty Forks In The Road. The album’s release date was extended due to the Coronavirus pandemic and is set for release on July 31, 2020.
Alanis shared a beautiful photo of herself with her son Winter Mercy. She chose several hashtags for the sweet photo including one that referred to attachment parenting.
Alanis shared another photo that depicts how she blends her musical career with unschooling and includes her children in her writing and recording process.
Fans are curious if Alanis’ and Souleye’s musical gifts will pass down to their children. Will Onyx Solace follow in her mother’s footsteps and be a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter?
You may see a pre-Coronavirus family photo of Alanis and Souleye as they headed to New York for New Year’s Eve below.
