Al Franken is in a sticky situation once again after an older interview on Howard Stern’s radio show resurfaced. Apparently, at the time, he showed off about grabbing Kathie Lee Gifford‘s behind! However, later on, he took it back and denied he’s ever done such a thing.
The Minnesota Senator, who, after Leeann Tweeden shared a pic of him touching her chest while sleeping, refused to resign, was accused of sexual harassment by a couple of other women as well.
The interview scandal involving Lee Gifford dates form 1999.
At the time, he was not a politician but was known as a funnyman.
Meanwhile, Gifford was on the show Live with Kathie and Regis.
The drama started when executive producer for Stern’s radio show, Gary Dell-Abate said while on air: ‘I was talking to Al earlier in the green room, and he was telling me — I was asking him if he ever does, you know, Kathie and Regis, he was telling me how he used to co-host with Kathie Lee. He said he kissed her and grabbed her ass!’
Franken did not deny it but changed the topic soon after, one of the things they talked about being his happy marriage.
Later on, however, one caller brought up the story once again.
The caller, also referred to as Big Black noted that, about six months prior, a newspaper columnist had reported that Gifford herself asked the network to not hire Franken as co-host again due to the groping.
When questioned again if he did grab her butt, he replied: ‘She grabbed my ass.’
He sounded really shaken up but denied it, saying: ‘No, uh, yeah, I think [the columnist] reported that and he was wrong.’
He changed the topic once again and asked the caller about watching him and Gifford hosting together.
Later, he denied it again, even though the producer stressed that he’d admitted to it off air.
‘She was very uncomfortable in that show though,’ the caller stated.
‘I didn’t grab her ass! I certainly didn’t touch her in any way to arouse her or gratify her,’ Franken argued.
