Afton Williamson Reveals She Quit 'The Rookie' Because She Was The Victim Of Racism, Bullying And Sexual Assault On Set!
Afton Williamson is not planning on coming back to The Rookie for season 2 and she took to social media to tell her fans the reason why! Apparently, the star suffered bullying, racism and even sexual assault while working on the show and what makes the whole situation even worse, the production team did nothing to help and protect her!
The news that Afton would be quitting The Rookie broke at the end of last month and shocked a lot of the fans since her character, TO Talia Bishop, was pretty important during the first season, which showed her become John Nolan’s (played by Nathan Fillion) mentor.
Earlier today, she took to her Instagram account to tell all on her exit.
In a lengthy caption, the actress said in part that ‘I owe it to my amazing fans to share the Truth. Throughout the shooting of the pilot, I experienced Racial Discrimination/Racially Charged inappropriate comments from the hair department as well as bullying from Executive Producers.’
She went on to say that: ‘It continued along with Sexual Harassment from a guest star and the racist commentary and bullying from the Hair Dept. Head escalated into sexual assault while at our wrap party. The Sexual Harassment though reported directly to the Showrunner/EP [Alexi Hawley] remained undocumented and wasn't reported to HR as promised.’
Williamson also claimed that it took a whole year of her being bullied and racially discriminated for the Hair Dept. Head to be fired, which happened only after she was sexually assaulted.
She says that, while she was assured the actor who assaulted her would be fired, she was also required to film alongside him the very next day.
The star continued to explain her situation, detailing all the unfairness she experienced and the lack of legal measures taken to defend her.
