Four time Oscar nominated actress Michelle Williams is off the market. The highly respected and critically acclaimed actress has tied the knot with musician Phil Elverum. Williams, who is 37-years-old, opened up about her relationship with the singer-songwriter in the September issue of Vanity Fair.
The couple had a secret ceremony in the Adirondacks with only a small group of their friends and both their daughters present.
Williams had doubts about sharing details about her relationship publically. She refers to their time together as “very sacred and very special.”
The pair met through a mutual friend and they quickly found out that they had similar backstories.
If you know anything about Michelle Williams, it’s that she’s the Thomas Pynchon of the film world—almost immaculately private. But in our September cover story, the actress revealed her recent marriage, a new outlook on her career, and the lessons she learned from the pay-gap scandal that rocked Hollywood. Elverum, 40, lost his wife to pancreatic cancer, in 2016, leaving behind their 1 and a half year old daughter.
Williams suffered a similar loss with the passing of Heath Ledger, the father of her now 12 year old daughter, Matilda, back in 2008.
The actress explains that she never gave up on love. She speaks about Ledger to her daughter often and says things like “your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.”
She speaks fondly of her new husband saying that the way he loves her is “the way I want to live my life on the whole.”
Williams boasts that she is finally loved by someone who makes her “feel free.”
When asked what her advice is for those who are seeking love yet have suffered multiple losses and grief in their relationships and life, she gave a very simple answer.
“Don’t settle. Don’t settle for something that feels like a prison, or is hard, or hurts you. If it doesn’t feel like love, it’s not love.”
Congratulations to the couple, may they have every happiness.
