It’s been a bit over three weeks since Roseanne was canceled due to the star of the show, Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet scandal. Now, we have learned that ABC has officially ordered a spin-off that will be featuring the entire original cast with the exception of Barr, of course.
The show has received a ten episode order, it is titled The Conners and it’s set to premiere this fall!
As for any additional castmates or the release date, they will be announced at a later date.
In a statement, ABC says: ‘The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter, and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.’
Gilbert, Metcalf, Goodman, Goranson, and Fishman also told in a joint statement: ‘We’ve received a huge amount of support from fans of the show, and it is clear that the characters not only have a place in our hearts but in the hearts as well as the homes of our audience. It all came back last season because we wanted to share stories about the challenges facing a working class family today. We’re so thrilled to have the opportunity to return with the same cast and same crew to continue to tell those stories through love and laughter.’
Due to the fact that Barr used to be an executive producer of the show, she needed to give her permission for them to go on with it without her involvement.
‘I regret the circumstances that caused me to get removed from Roseanne. I did agree to the settlement in order that two hundred jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved,’ she announced.
