Even though Zoe Saldana and her husband, Marco Perego, have three boys, they’re not pushing any of their children to conform to a masculine stereotype. She’s clamoring for her children to develop in whatever way they see fit, in an open environment, so to speak.
The 39-year-old actress explained that she and her husband switch tasks based on what gender norm they’re typically associated with. So, sometimes Marco does more feminine roles, and sometimes Zoe does more masculine roles.
Zoe called it a “gender-neutral environment,” and the idea behind it is so that their kids realize it’s ok to develop in the way they choose. Zoe said that she thinks it’s “important to raise boys” and girls in that environment.
For the first time, Saldana and Perego took their kids to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in May. Marco and Saldana got married back in 2013, and Marco even took her last name, instead of the other way around.
The sister of the Colombiana actress said it was “ironic” that, after growing up in a family of all women, now she’s around men all of the time instead. Saldana said that she’s been learning a lot about “male biology.” She claims they are just as insane as girls are.
Saldana said their energy is crazy; “they’re super hyper,” and dealing with three of them, four if she counts her husband, is quite taxing on her energy levels.
Zoe said she’s experienced “blowouts” several times now. In other words, her children poop their pants. She said, “it’s just, you know, c’est la vie.” And while she finds herself in awkward situations like the aforementioned, she’s had some really fine ones as well.
Her proudest moment yet was when her boys spoke their very first words. Moreover, her children have taught her to be less work-focused, and instead, to learn to enjoy the moment. She said, “that’s what they’re teaching me.”
