Zoe Saldana is a mother to three young boys, and it’s not uncommon for her to hear the question, “why don’t you want a girl?” In the latest conversation with reporters from Today, Zoe explained why she was perfectly content with her family as it is now.
During an event for American Express, Zoe told Today that the question puzzled her because “we don’t feel like we’re missing anything.” As fans of Saldana know, she and her husband, Marco Perego-Saldana, had children in November 2014, and another son two years after that.
According to the Colombiana alum, her family with Marco is as complete as any, and they’re “very happy and proud of them.” Saldana explained she and her man aren’t missing out on a single thing.
Rather than focusing on how to change her family, Zoe explained she and Marco are more concerned with raising good children. The star said to Today, “we have enough children.”
“Hopefully I’ll get to have daughters later,” but she doesn’t feel like she’s missing out, the Hollywood star remarked. As it was previously reported, Zoe said they were raising their kids in a “gender-neutral environment.”
Rather than buying certain toys for their children in relation to their gender stereotype, Zoe and Marco buy their kids whatever they like, rather than what society tells them they should like.
In June, she explained that she wanted to fight against the stereotypes of men and women in society. Zoe and Marco think the idea of raising a family where gender roles are used as a means of raising children are completely “ludicrous.”
Saldana explained that she and Marco stand “as a unit,” and their children will consider them as having an equal amount of authority. Zoe said the idea that a man should “wear the pants,” or that a woman should do the same, is not a good way to raise a child.
