How much do you think the host of the Oscars makes?
According to Jimmy Kimmel, he will only earn $15,000 for the night.
The late night funny man will host will host the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on February 26.
He quipped: “I think it’s illegal to pay nothing.
Kimmel said he didn’t know if it was ok to reveal how mosh he was getting paid, but blamed the slip-up on the shows producers.
He told the ‘Kevin & Bean’ morning show: “I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this. But nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault.”
The former “Man Show” host also jokes that the only reason he’s hosting the Star-studded event is because no one else wanted the gig.
He said, tongue in cheek: “They asked like 14 people and they all said no and then there was me. I absolutely was surprised.”
He added in an opening monologue this week, “The producers and the Academy went through a long list of names, and in the end, they decided that – since I am already right across the street from where they do the show – I was the closest person to host.”
The comparative lowness of Kimmel’s pay for the event has surprised many in the industry. (Last year’s Oscars goodie bag was worth $232,000).
In addition to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the comedian has also hosted his own Oscars aftershow on ABC within the last few years.
The 89th Academy Awards will air live Sunday, Feb. 27, 2017, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
