Even though the relationship between Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith is the milestone for which many people compare their own, during a recent episode of Jada’s show, Red Table Talk, the pair revealed their first encounter didn’t go the way they had hoped.
According to Will, he went to her taping of A Different World, in which Jada starred, that way he could make her fall head over heels. After he saw her on screen, Will said he had to meet her.
Alfonso Ribeiro, his former co-star, whose career was destroyed by The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, took him over to meet Jada, after telling him her name, but ultimately encountering a different situation altogether.
When Will first saw Jada on A Different World, he knew right away that their energy would be “magic,” so he had Alfonso “hook it up.” Check out the video clip below to see Will explain it himself:

TSR STAFF: Thembi! @ThembiTV_ _____________________________________ Y’all, I just watched part one of #JadaPinkettSmith’s #RedTableTalk with #WillSmith as the guest and the tea definitely runneth over. First and foremost, the mix of emotions you’ll feel when watching this episode including laughter, inspiration, and relatabilty to name a few, are on another level! _____________________________________ Will had a way of bringing a lot of charisma and humor to the “table” while also being deep AF. Issa whole gift. Anyhow, one of the craziest things we learned is that Will did the most to try and get set up with Jada, and when that day came, the guy who was gonna set him up was with a woman who had Will like “Who is that?!” Long story short—the woman ended up being his then future wife, #ShereeFletcher. Y’all! _____________________________________ He and Jada saw each other here and there but never really talked, talked. Fast forward to Will and Sheree being married with a kid, he and Jada crossed paths again and actually had a conversation which brought Will to a realization. He says the next night he and Sheree went to dinner and he realized he was with the person who he wasn’t supposed to be with but would NEVER divorce her so it would never come to fruition. _____________________________________ Jada and Will made it clear that they connected, but definitely did not have an affair. Will went on about his life, and Sheree is the one who filed for divorce, on Valentine’s Day. He told her “no” regarding a divorce and she basically—read more & watch the full episode at theshaderoom.com 🎥: @redtabletalk
Unfortunately, their first interaction didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped. When he was there, another person caught his attention instead, Sheree Zampino.
Will said he met Sheree, after trying to get with Jada, and ended up marrying the wrong woman, and even having a child with her, Trey. “I didn’t meet Jada that day,” the star remarked.
In May 1992, Will and Zampino got married but divorced just three years later. Minutes after signing the divorce papers, he was already on the phone calling Jada Pinkett-Smith, and it was history there-on-in.
These days, Will and Jada are the parents to two kids together, Willow, and Jaden, who both have careers in the works, especially, Jaden, who is making waves in the hip-hop scene right now. Jaden released his first record, Syre, to mixed reviews, but he has established somewhat of a cult following among his fans.
Some music critics, however, including The Needle Drop‘s Anthony Fantano, believes that Jaden lacks self-awareness, and needs to tone down his self-aggrandizing mindset.
Either way, the Smith family is incredibly successful, and their future looks promising. Trey, on the other hand, rarely rears his head in the public space, preferring to remove his persona from the rest of the Smith family.
