Following the election, and during the presidential campaign in 2016, celebrities, actors, actresses, as well as many people in the general public joked that they would flee to Canada if Trump were to become the chief-in-command. Most recently, fans speculated that Matt would emigrate to Australia, the continent on all its own.
The 47-year-old actor denied recent reports that he and his wife, Luciana Barroso, as well as their four daughters, would move to the continent Down Under.
A representative speaking on behalf of Damon and his wife stated they have no intentions of moving there. They haven’t bought property, despite visiting the country several times in the last year.
In the same day, a source who spoke with reporters from Page Six claimed that Matt told his friends he was leaving everyone in Hollywood for Australia due to Trump’s policies.
The news of his intention to leave the US came after the Sunday Telegraph claimed Damon bought a house in Byron Bay, New South Wales.
Undoubtedly, Matt has vehemently disapproved of the president, but he’s not leaving the entertainment hub of the Americas. Nevertheless, since his campaign began in 2016, Damon has criticized the 71-year-old many times.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Damon said that Trump’s response to the riots in Charlottesville, Virginia, was “absolutely abhorrent.”
The riots in Virginia led to the death of three people and dozens injured. During his chat with reporters, Damon kept his opinions mostly to himself, stating that “everybody’s got a voice at this point,” and he clearly is not thrilled over the “damage done” to the institutions of the United States government.
