Members of the royal family are famous for following a strict set of rules, especially when it comes to social media. When Meghan Markle tied the knot with Prince Harry, for instance, she got rid of all her social media accounts and now shares one with Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton. Although these four don’t have individual social media accounts, Princess Eugenie has her own Instagram.
Eugenie’s Instagram account is a bit of a mystery but there might be a good explanation behind it. One possible explanation is because of Eugenie’s relationship to the crown. The Princess of York is the ninth person in line to the throne.
Her father is Prince Andrew, a younger brother of Prince Charles and a son of Queen Elizabeth. Given her position, Eugenie does not have a big role within the confines of the royal family.
While most members of the royal family spend their days working for charities, Eugenie has a fairly normal job. According to Closer Weekly, Eugenie is the associate director at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery in London.
Eugenie still goes with her father on public engagements and is active in the charitable community, but she spends most of her time at the art gallery, which could also be one of the reasons she needs her own Instagram account.
That said, it is interesting to note that Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice, does not have her own social media accounts. We do not know why Beatrice is not on social media, especially since she’s basically in the same position as Eugenie.
Either way, Princess Eugenie has already amassed over 175,000 followers on her Instagram page, where she regularly posts photos from her everyday life. But what are the chances that Markle will ditch the rules and get her own social media account?
Sadly, it is not likely that Markle will create her own social media account. The Suits alum deleted all her accounts right before she got married and even shut down her personal blog.
Security is one of the biggest reasons why Meghan Markle and other high-ranking members of the royal family don’t have personal social media accounts. Given Markle’s popularity and the attention she has generated for the royal family, this policy could change in the future, especially if the royal family wants to continue modernizing its brand.
