Kate Middleton and Prince William excitedly welcomed the newest member of the royal family this week, but the official birth announcement left out one name: Meghan Markle. Although this could be interpreted as a shady move by some fans, there is actually a good reason why the former Suits star wasn’t included in the statement.
Kensington Palace released an official announcement Monday morning confirming that Middleton had given birth to a healthy baby boy. The statement revealed that Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, Prince Harry and other members of the family had been informed about the news. The palace did not, however, mention Markle’s name alongside Harry’s.
The bulletin has been placed outside Buckingham Palace formally announcing the birth of the The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new son. The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.
Why didn’t Kensington Palace add Markle’s name to the announcement?
Markle and Harry are not set to tie the knot until May 19. According to Bustle, Markle was left off the announcement because she is technically not a member of the royal family. The snub was not done in a shady manner and was simply a matter of royal protocol.
“If the baby had been born after the wedding, Meghan would certainly have been included,” royal expert Marlene Koenig explained. “It is not a snub.”
Members of the royal family are notorious for following rules and it makes sense that they would do so in the event of a royal birth. That said, the family ditched the rules when Markle spent Christmas with Harry and Queen Elizabeth, which is typically reserved for royal family members only.

As far as Markle is concerned, she probably wasn’t mad about not being included in the birth announcement. In fact, the former actress has already spent time with Middleton and the baby, which is a lot more important that being included in a social media post.
An inside source revealed that Markle and Harry visited the proud parents this week and that Markle loved spending time with the little one. Just like Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, Markle is a natural with kids.
In light of the new birth, fans are already wondering when Markle and Harry will start a family of their own. The two have not discussed their baby plans in public, though sources claim that they are both eager to have children. Here’s to hoping that happens sooner rather than later.
This morning Kate Middleton and Prince William finally revealed the new baby’s name – Louis Arthur Charles, who is not 5th in line for the throne.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will tie the knot inside St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.
