Caitriona Balfe, star of Outlander, stopped by the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night. And, the discussion immediately turned to the show’s famous sex scenes.
Colbert asked, “Your show has been hailed as having some of the best sex on television. Are you aware of this? Can you explain why your sex on TV might be better than others? Is it because your character is a nurse and she knows her way around?
Balfe replied, “Well, she’s great with anatomy. And the men wear kilts, so it’s easy access, I guess.”
After a 14-month break known as droughtlander, the Starz time traveling drama will finally be returning for season three this Sunday.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Balfe and her co-star Sam Heughan have been making the media rounds this week to promote the show’s season premiere.
In addition to Balfe being on The Late Show, the pair have made appearances on The View and Live! With Kelly and Ryan.
The pair also spoke with Variety about the new season.
Heughan, who plays Jamie, says that they have all grown up on the show, and lives have definitely changed. Even though being part of the show has been rewarding, there is one thing everyone lacks…sleep.
Apparently, shooting the series is a lot of hard work and long hours. Sleep seems to elude the cast and crew.
They also said that working on Outlander is a bit of a challenge and can be disorienting, because of the constantly changing sets, costumes, and time frames.
When this season begins, Balfe’s character Claire will be back in 1948. She is living in Boston and married to Frank. She is also pregnant with Jamie’s baby.
Meanwhile, Jamie is still in Scotland in the 18th century, and has barely survived the Battle of Culloden. He is full of grief, having lost the love of his life, and his child.
The lovers are now separated by an ocean and hundreds of years. But, that won’t keep Claire from trying to get back to Jamie, even though she will have to leave her daughter behind.
Season 3 of Outlander premieres Sunday night at 8 pm on Starz.
