The Duggar family is famous for their conservative lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean the kids from Counting On don’t have rebellious streaks. During their decade on reality television, many of the 19 Duggar kids have taken the opportunity to break Jim Bob and Michelle’s strict rules.
Jinger Duggar — who is now the wife of Jeremy Vuolo and mom to baby Felicity — was the first Duggar daughter to ignore her parents’ dress code. She started wearing pants not long after she got engaged, and fans love her fashion sense. In addition to wearing pants, Jinger has also rocked shorts, sleeveless shirts, heels, and short skirts above the knee.
Not only has Jinger been a rebel with what she wears, but also with where she buys her clothes. Instead of hitting thrift stores like her mom, Jinger skips the bargain shopping and buys new clothes to reflect her own personal style. And, she has encouraged her siblings to do the same.
But, Jinger was just the first Duggar daughter to change up the dress code. Her sisters Jill and Jessa have also worn pants. And, Jill pierced her nose and has worn henna tattoos.
Jessa also revealed that she broke her parents’ courting rules by talking on the phone unsupervised with Ben Seewald on a regular basis before they got married. And, when her little brother Josiah was courting Lauren Swanson earlier this year, he posted a pic on Instagram of him and Swanson Facetiming without a chaperone.
Speaking of Josiah, he got around his parents’ social media rules before getting married. Usually, the Duggar kids aren’t allowed to have social media accounts until they are engaged. But, Josiah started his Instagram and Twitter accounts in 2015 when he was courting Marjorie Jackson, and after they broke up, he kept the accounts and continued to post updates for fans.
Josiah and his fiancée also took a trip to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, before they got married. And, fans noticed in the pics that the couple appeared to be alone — without chaperones.
Jim Bob and Michelle also do not allow their kids to watch television. But, Jinger once posted a pic on Instagram of her young son watching an episode of HGTV’s Fixer Upper.
Another big rule that both John David and Joy-Anna broke was the “no physical contact” policy. Jim Bob and Michelle only allow their courting children to enjoy side hugs with their significant others. But, according to In Touch Weekly, John David has gotten handsy with his fiancé, Abbie Grace Burnett. And, Joy-Anna confessed to front hugs with Austin Forsyth before they walked down the aisle.
There has been a lot of rebellious behavior in the Duggar family, and not even half of the kids are married yet. So, it’s likely that we will see some more rule breakers in the future as the little kids get older.
New episodes of Counting On will return to TLC in 2019.
