Numerous celebrities joined forces on September 12, 2007, for a hurricane relief benefit concert for both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma victims. Hand in Hand, a Benefit for Hurricane Relief opened phone lines with three call centers across the nation where celebrities manned the phones, spoke to those making a donation, and helped ease the suffering of those impacted by recent hurricanes. Call centers were set up in Hollywood, Nashville, and New York.
Hurricane Harvey caused widespread devastation and flooding throughout Houston, Texas and other nearby areas, while Irma’s path ripped through the Caribbean, pounded Florida and made its way through several states.

By early Wednesday morning, tallies from Hand in Hand, a Benefit for Hurricane Relief reported an estimated $44 million had been raised. People can still donate by purchasing official merchandise through the website. Hip hop artist Bun B and manager Scooter Braun organized the event.

From Barbra Streisand and Cher to Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber the lineup was diverse, which in turn caused more people to tune into the one-hour broadcast. Though some might have felt one hour wasn’t enough time to devote to a celebrity fundraiser, the impact was significant.
Notable actors who participated in Hand in Hand, a Benefit for Hurricane Relief include Robert DeNiro, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, Will Smith, Steve Buscemi and Dennis Quaid.
Many Christian artists also joined forces with the benefit and participated. These include Amy Grant, Tyler Perry, Chris Tomlin, Pastor John Gray and Michael W. Smith.
Though Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have gone their separate ways, both supported Hand in Hand, a Benefit for Hurricane Relief. Justin Bieber answered phones, while Selena Gomez pre-recorded a video message that aired during the live event.
